They can recognise it. That is not the issue

Platforms do detect video they have encountered before. What they do about it depends almost entirely on who posted it and whether it was theirs to post.

01

What is duplicate detection actually for?

Copyright and impersonation, mostly. It exists to find someone else's material reposted without permission. Your own clip appearing on your own accounts on different platforms is not what it was built to catch, and the platforms do not share a common index of your posting.

02

What detection is looking for

These systems exist for copyright and impersonation. Your own material on your own accounts is not what they were built to catch.

ScenarioDetected?Consequence
Your clip on your own four accountsNot as a shared indexNone
Someone else reposting your clipYes, this is the purposeReportable by you
Your clip twice on one accountYesTreated as duplication

Your clip carrying another app's markVisible without detectionThe real risk here

03

Posting your own clip in several places

Publishing the same clip on your own accounts across different apps is standard practice. Each platform judges the clip by how its own viewers respond, not by whether the file exists elsewhere. The things that matter are that the file is clean, fits the shape the platform expects, and has text written for that platform's audience.

Adjust the caption and tags for each app rather than pasting the same text everywhere. Small changes to fit each audience help the clip feel native without changing the video itself.

04

When someone else reposts your work

If another account posts your clip without permission, the platform's copyright or impersonation tools are the route to have it removed. Keep your original files and publication dates, since they are the evidence that the work is yours.

Some creators welcome reposts with credit because they bring new viewers. Decide your policy in advance and state it somewhere visible, so fans know what is allowed.

05

Posting the same clip twice on one account

Uploading an identical clip twice to the same account is a different matter from cross-posting. Viewers who saw it before may scroll past quickly, and repeated identical uploads can look like spam. If you want a second chance for a moment, make a new version with a different opening or length.

Space such versions out by weeks rather than days, so they reach a partly different audience.

06

Keeping track of where each clip went

A simple spreadsheet listing each clip, the platforms it was posted to and the dates avoids accidental duplicates and makes it easy to compare performance between apps. Over time it also shows which platforms respond best to which kinds of content.

Add a column for the link on each platform. When someone asks where to find a clip, or when you need to show a sponsor where it ran, the answer is one search away.

07

Yours to post, everywhere

  • Post from your own accounts. Ownership is what the systems are looking at.
  • Avoid reposting the identical file to one account. Duplication in one place is the case that is actually flagged.
  • Keep the source recording. It is what resolves any claim quickly.

Produce a clip and put it on every account you own.

Questions people ask

Do platforms compare with each other?
Not as a shared index of your posting. Each maintains its own view of what it has seen.
What happens if someone else posts my clip?
That is what detection exists for, and reporting it is the route. Having the original recording makes the case straightforward.
Is a slightly edited version treated as new?
Detection tolerates small changes, which is deliberate, since trivial edits were the obvious way around it.
Does this affect cross posting my own work?
In practice, no. The visible mark of another platform is the thing that causes trouble, not the duplication.
Does this vary between countries?
Copyright handling does, sometimes substantially. Anything specific is worth checking locally.
